The Night Everything Changed

by Shaunta Scott

She didn't have to get up… but she did. 🤍

There was a night I will never forget.

I was a child… but something didn't feel right inside of me. I couldn't explain it. I didn't have the words for it. All I knew was… I needed God to be real.

Not something I heard about. Not something people talked about in passing. I needed to feel Him.

So I did the only thing I knew to do… I got up. And I went to my aunt.

She was asleep. And she didn't have to get up. She didn't have to answer me. She didn't have to respond to what I was feeling. She could have told me to go back to bed.

But she didn't.

She got up.

And in that moment, she didn't rush me. She didn't dismiss me. She didn't make me feel like what I was experiencing didn't matter. She met me right where I was.

She reminded me of how much God loved me. She spoke life into me in a way my heart could understand.

And then… she prayed with me. Not a rushed prayer. Not something routine. A real prayer.

And something changed. I may not have had all the understanding at that age… but I felt something I had never felt before. Peace. Comfort. Love.

That night showed me something I would carry with me for the rest of my life: God is not distant. He is real. He is present. And He meets us in the moments when we don't even have the words to explain what we feel.

Looking back now… that moment wasn't small. It was the beginning.

The beginning of my understanding of God. The beginning of my relationship with Him. And the beginning of what would one day become… Hannah.

Because Hannah's story… isn't just a story. It comes from a real place. A real moment. A real encounter.

And it all started… with a child who needed God to feel real. And an aunt… who didn't have to get up—but she did. 🤍
